EDF Renewables North America has signed a 15-year 332MWdc Virtual Power Purchase Agreement (VPPA) with McDonald's USA.
The power will come from the Apollo solar project in Texas, which is expected to come online in June 2024. After completion, the project can produce 619,000MWh of clean energy per year.
In addition, the VPPA with EDF Renewables will bring McDonald's closer to its 2030 emissions reduction goals and is the second VPPA of its kind for McDonald's. Last year, it signed a 345MWdc VPPA with Lightsource BP.
"It has been a pleasure working with a counterparty like McDonald's, which is willing to provide the flexibility necessary to bring the Apollo solar project to fruition during these uncertain times for the solar industry," said Matt McCluskey, EDF Renewables' South Central Regional Development Vice President.
The region's renewable energy development portfolio includes 24GW of solar panel, wind and energy storage developments and 13GW of service contracts.
Last month, EDF connected a 457MW solar-storage project on public lands in California.
