The world's best! The latest major progress of two major energy storage projects!

Time: August 28, 2024

Recently, the construction of the world's highest-altitude photovoltaic storage project and the world's largest liquid air energy storage project has made significant progress.

The world's highest-altitude photovoltaic storage project

On August 20, the second phase of the Huadian Tibet Caipeng photovoltaic storage power station in Shannan, Tibet, officially started construction. The highest altitude of the power station site reached 5228 meters, breaking the record of the highest altitude of the first phase of the project site at 5100 meters, becoming the world's highest altitude solar energy storage project under construction.

The second phase of the Caipeng photovoltaic storage power station, which started construction this time, is located in the altitude range of 5046 meters to 5228 meters, with an installed capacity of 100MW. Nearly 170,000 photovoltaic modules will be installed, and a 20MW/80MWh grid-type energy storage system will be configured, which can output 80,000 kWh of electricity for 4 consecutive hours at night.

As a key project for power security in Tibet, the Caipeng photovoltaic storage power station has a total installed capacity of 150MW, with an estimated annual power generation of about 246 million kWh, and will be supplied to the Tibet-China power grid. The first phase of the power station will be put into operation at the end of 2023. It has generated more than 40 million kWh of electricity so far, effectively alleviating the seasonal power shortage in Shannan, Tibet.

The world's largest liquid air energy storage project

On August 15, the Qinghai 60,000 kW/600,000 kWh liquid air energy storage demonstration project successfully completed the main construction and equipment foundation tasks, and officially entered the core equipment installation stage from the civil construction stage.

On August 17, the centrifugal compressor unit, a key equipment of the compression module of the project, was successfully put off the production line. This unit is the world's first set and the world's largest horizontally split centrifugal compressor unit, which is of great significance to ensure the efficient and safe operation of the whole project.

The project is located in Golmud City, Haixi Mongolian and Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture. It is invested and constructed by China Green Development Investment Group Co., Ltd. The project adopts a new generation of compressed air energy storage technology, with an installed capacity of 60MW/600MWh, a total investment of approximately 1.568 billion yuan, and a 250,000 kW photovoltaic power plant. It has been selected as a new energy storage pilot demonstration project of the National Energy Administration. After the project is completed and put into operation, it will become the world's largest demonstration project in the field of liquid air energy storage with the world's largest power generation capacity and energy storage scale.
